Pile Integrity Test (PIT)
PILE INTEGRITY TEST

Pile Integrity Test
Our professional services include Pile Integrity Testing (PIT), a quick and cost-effective method for assessing the integrity of foundation piles. This test is applicable to all types of concrete and composite piles, particularly bored piles.
Importance of Pile Integrity
Ensuring the integrity of foundation piles is crucial for their serviceability and ability to support loads transferred from buildings or structures. During pile construction, defects such as concrete flush-outs, necking, voids, and cracks are common, especially in bored piles. For driven piles, overstressing during installation can also cause cracks or other damage. Therefore, it’s essential to ensure that each installed pile is free from defects.
Why Choose Pile Integrity Testing (PIT)?
PIT is one of the most suitable methods for detecting pile defects. It allows for a quick and efficient assessment, often taking just a few minutes per pile.
How PIT Works:
- Wave Generation:
- A handheld hammer generates a low-strain compressive wave by impacting the pile head.
- Data Collection:
- An accelerometer, attached to a leveled section of the pile top, measures the resulting wave.
- Defect Detection:
- The recorded wave is displayed graphically.
- Significant reflections in the wave indicate changes in pile impedance, signaling potential integrity issues such as cracks, voids, or other anomalies.
This method provides a fast, reliable way to identify defects, helping ensure the structural soundness of foundation piles.
